The iameco Tablet, launched in Ireland last year, is set to be unveiled to the European markets next month. The PC, from Dublin-based MicroPro Computers, will be launched at the Electronics Goes Green conference in Berlin this September. The wooden framed tablet has garnered praise from environmentalists including the Franhofer Institute of Reliability and Microintegration in Berlin.
The tablet has a carbon footprint that is 70% less than that of a normal computer and almost 100% of all the materials used are recyclable. 20% of the machine can be recycled immediately as many parts can be used for repairing other computers and the wooden frame is also recyclable.
LED lighting has replaced conventional lighting to improve energy efficiency by 30-40%, while copper tubing and heat sinks replace the traditional fans used to prevent processors from overheating, cutting down on energy required to cool the PC.
Iameco’s Paul Maher said: "Having worked in the computer industry for over 20 years, I have witnessed the incredible waste associated with computer manufacturing. Our iameco PC takes eco-friendly computers to a new level without compromising in high definition specifications that today’s consumers demand."
