HTC suffers further losses in Q1 2014
Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC continues to struggle after unaudited first quarter results for 2014 revealed a net loss after tax of NT$1.88 billion (€45 million).
This marks the third consequtive negative quarter for the company, which has struggled against Samsung in the high-end smartphone space. Q3 2013 marked the first time HTC reported a quarterly loss, a trend it has not managed to turnaround despite a high-profile marketing campaign and a positive reception for the HTC One handset.
HTC was the first manufacturer to release a smartphone running Google’s Android operating system but has consistently lost ground to competitors like Samsung, Sony and LG.
In a statement announcing the results, HTC said it expects to return to profitability in the March-May quarter, based on expectations of sales for the One M8 and the “mid-tier” Desire 816.
