Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC has recorded its first loss in the third quarter of 2013. According to figures released yesterday, the company suffered an operating loss of $101 million on total revenues of $1.6 billion.
The second quarter of the year saw profits plummet 85% to $41.6 million on revenues of $2.35 billion. The release of the HTC One smartphone was expected to boost revenues in the third quarter but despite favourable reviews and sales of 5 million units in its first month (a company record). Sales of its companion product, the One Mini have reached their 200,000 a month target but sales have stalled as demand outstripped supply.
