HP has Expanded its iPAQ range of handheld computers by introducing five new mobile devices which emphasize its commitment to providing mobility products for business.
HP used the largest product launch in the iPaq brand’s history to show off its next generation of software, services and accessories for business and personal users on the move.
The new devices include two 3G smartphones, a personal navigation device and two personal digital assistants (PDAs).
“This unprecedented expansion of iPAQ product and services demonstrates HP’s dedication to the mobile space and to the needs of its business customers,” said Regine Pohl, mobility and handhelds director, HP Personal Systems Group, Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Businesses need fast, flexible and reliable mobility, and HP delivers on these needs with our new products, services and solutions.”
Two new smartphones offer mobile email, voice and access to critical enterprise applications.Users of the iPAQ 914 Business Messenger and iPAQ 614 Business Navigator can conduct calls and access the Internet via tri-band UMTS/HSDPA and quad-band GSM/EDGE wireless technology, while integrated Wi-Fi allows for hot spot connectivity and VoIP capabilities.
Along with long battery life and turn-by-turn navigation via Assisted GPS, both phones feature HP’s iPAQ Device Connect software, which simplify high-speed connection to the Internet. Other features built-in include Voice Commander, and HP Voice Reply, enabling hands-free emailing.
While The iPAQ 914 Business Messenger features an alphanumeric QWERTY thumb keyboard and a 3-way thumb wheel which allows one-handed operation; the iPAQ 614 Business Navigator is optimized for single-handed use, with a 12-key design. It has a unique Smart Touch navigational wheel, embedded in the keypad. The Navigator user can scroll through email, zoom in and out of maps or browse file lists using a simple circular motion of the thumb. As a two-in-one phone and navigator, the iPAQ 614 offers available maps and car kit aimed at frequent travelers.
Both feature assisted GPS for location-based services and preinstalled Google Maps Mobile for route planning.
Both run on the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 Professional operating system and include a bright touch screen and a 3-megapixel camera. They also feature quick upload to Snapfish, the leading online photo service. Users can upload photos taken with an iPAQ directly to their Snapfish account over-the-air.
HP is also working with software companies to ensure essential business applications such as email, customer relationship management (CRM), supply chain management (SCM) and mobile IP telephony applications are certified and supported. HP says its new services will empower companies by enabling better mobile device management, and by allowing software to be customised so companies can develop location-based services.
Personal navigation
Aimed at business and personal travellers, the HP iPAQ 314 Travel Companion’s high-resolution, 3D navigation experience comes complete with a premium entertainment system, Bluetooth phone connectivity and web-based trip planning services to help travellers make the most of their journey and destination.
The 314’s brilliant 800-by 480-pixel, 4.3-inch widescreen display, provides resolution equivalent to full DVD-quality video. An improved initial GPS satellite fix provides users with a quick GPS connection. An online trip planning web portal debuting soon will help tailor travel itineraries, researching destination information and uploading routes and content to the iPAQ. Users can also connect to a Bluetooth phone and talk hands free, enjoy MP3 music, videos photos and pre-installed games.
PDAs for enterprise and personal productivity
The new iPAQ 214 Enterprise Handheld, with its big VGA 4-inch touch screen, is a powerhouse. It can run a variety of enterprise applications or third-party vertical business solutions. With integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, it offers convenient mobile connectivity and can be used as a VoIP handset.
In classic PDA tradition, the sleek and affordable 114 Classic Handheld is just 13 mm thin. The 114 is an elegant PDA which fits comfortably in the hand and is designed to be uised with a mobile phone. Its large display makes content easy to see, as it shares and synchronizes Outlook Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and media. With Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and the latest Windows Mobile 6 operating system, the 114 provides personal productivity, wireless connectivity and entertainment in a thin and light design – all at a value price of ** Euro €299.
