HP has signed a new partnership deal with Research In Motion, makers of BlackBerry handsets. The deal will see HP, now Ireland’s best-selling brand PC according to IDC figures, offering several new products and services for RIM’s BlackBerry smart phone line. HP has already announced server packages as well as services for the handsets.
HP’s executive VP of technology solutions group in the UK, Ann Livermore, explained: “Emerging models of communications and collaboration have created an opportunity for RIM and HP to provide service-based mobile solutions that deliver value to customers.”
The servers will come bundled with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software as well as the option of HP’s Operations Manager software. The firm will also be offering a new CloudPrint service for the BlackBerry, which will allow users to print e-mails directly from the handset.
HP’s $13.9bn acquisition of EDS will also come into play in the RIM deal, since the outsourcing specialist will offer a management service for corporate BlackBerry networks.
