The Irish Computer Society (ICS) is consolidating its web hosting requirements into a single agreement with Hosting365, the society announced.

The decision was made after a “comprehensive assessment” of hosting services in the Irish marketplace, it said.
Jim Friars, CEO of ICS said he was happy the society chose to host with a 100% owned Irish company, with its data centre located in the country.

“The ICS is keen to promote the expertise of Irish companies and we are delighted to select Hosting365 on that basis.  It meets all our criteria technically and professionally,” Friars said.

Tom O’Sullivan, professional services manager with ICS said the society’s previous hosting incumbent was not responsive to its needs. “In addition to meeting our technical criteria in terms of products, security and hosting packages, we also liked Hosting365’s innovation and its approach to marketing,” said O’Sullivan.

Under the deal, Hosting 365 provides ICS with two dedicated servers. Critical intranets are hosted on the servers, with one hosting an SQL database, while the ICS’ many websites are located on the other.

Already, a number of projects underway at the ICS have gone live with the new hosting solution. One of the first tasks was to port the test centres accredited with the ICS Skills division to a new dedicated server.

Currently there are some 1,100 test centres active in this programme, which administers the ECDL training and examinations in Ireland.  A total of 300 centres have so far gone live with the remainder due to migrate to the new server next month.
