Antrim-based Texthelp Systems, a provider of assistive software, has released its PDF Accessibility Editor. Developed with Adobe, PDF Accessibility Editor and PDFaloud are aimed at impaired users reading PDF files.
Texthelp CEO Mark McCusker said the editor’s key benefits include the ability to define the reading order of PDF documents and to fine-tune the pronunciation of words and alternate text. The software also enables publishers to prepare education textbooks for conversion to accessible DAISY (disability-specific) format.
The product also complements Texthelp’s Browsealoud talking website software to give users a seamless read-aloud experience via PDF files.
McCusker said that, as users faced increasing demands from accessible electronic documents, Texthelp had developed a tool to simplify their task. PDF Accessibility Editor provides high quality speech feedback with highlighting in Adobe. This means the increasing number of documents being made available in this format will be accessible to those with reading difficulties.
The PDF format is increasingly being used by governments and other organisations to make documents available on the Internet. Texthelp is part of the Adobe Solutions Network.
