The Halo video game franchise has made history once again as Microsoft announced that Xbox 360 title Halo: Reach has generated more than $200 million in sales in the US and Europe in the first 24 hours of its release.
Based on US sales alone Halo: Reach is now the biggest entertainment launch of 2010, eclipsing the three-day opening weekends of Hollywood blockbusters like Iron Man 2, Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3 in a single day.
The Halo franchise has also been confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most popular video game series of all time, surpassing Nintendo’s Mario series.
Beginning with the original Halo: Combat Evolved in 2001, the series of games has broadened to include a series of New York Times best-selling novels, comic books, action figures, apparel and other memorabilia.
Halo: Reach marks the final collaboration between Microsoft and game developers Bungie.
