Disaster struck twice for UK sports sales this week as Rugby World Cup organisers announced that roughly  half a million tickets for the 2015 tournament will be delayed until the end of May.

A day before tickets to rugby clubs were due to go on sale, Ticketmaster requested more time to test and ensure the site can cope with demand after it failed to keep up with traffic to the Glasgow 2014 ticketing site earlier this week.

Glasgow 2014 Games executives were forced to publicly apologise to fans who were unable to buy tickets after Ticketmaster’s platform could not cope with high traffic on Monday. The site had to be shut down on several occasions as frustrated sports fans complained of being placed into 24-hour long queues to purchase game tickets.

Ticketmaster was also the provider for the London 2012 games. The Olympic Games’ ticketing system suffered similar issues following high traffic and at one point a processing error caused an estimated 700 customers to be double-charged for their tickets.

Following the Olympic ticket debacle, the provider awarded a contract to nLyte Software for data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) services, hoping it would help offer a more reliable service to customers.
