Google Ads are set to change as users increasingly adopt AI. The first experiments are about to be launched.
What those adverts from the AI-driven future will actually look like, Google still doesn’t know.
In an interview, Robby Stein, head of product at Google search (pictured), said that it’s still too early to tell. However, he added, the search giant does have an idea of the direction things are heading in. They’re soon starting the first public trials in this area.
“Search isn’t going away. The way it’s used isn’t changing either, but it is expanding. We’re seeing people use it more for everyday things.
“Now, you can do more with search. You can take a photo and ask a question straight away, for example. Or ask a restaurant a question: Is there enough light if you’re coming with a large group?”
The idea behind these new ad formats, which will adapt to increasingly AI-generated queries, is that they should be helpful.
“Searching and finding won’t change,” said Stein. “But there will be new forms of advertising. We want to anticipate more complex search questions – for example, if you want to redecorate your house.”
One example of this being how an AI could provide detailed advice, with paying advertisers potentially receiving a more prominent mention.
