Fujitsu is to provide the RADAR (Risk Avoidance and Danger Awareness Resource) Centre in Belfast with tablet computers in order to teach children how to stay safe online.

RADAR is the North’s first interactive, safety and life skills education centre and is designed to give children and young people the chance to explore dangerous scenarios in a risk-free, educational environment.

On top of digital skills, the Centre also covers road, home, personal and fire safety.

Mary Scullion, Fujitsu, said: “This is an exciting project which brings to life the potential risks and hazards our young people might face, allowing them to explore the potential outcomes of their choices and actions in a safe and educational way. With our background in technology we are acutely aware of the risks associated with Internet safety and the challenges faced by our young people when they communicate and engage online.”

Paul Bardon, senior project manager, RADAR, said: “The RADAR centre is a significant new resource designed to keep our young people better informed and better equipped to take responsibility for their own safety. In that context we believe it is important to have the expertise and support of some of our leading companies and organisations to ensure that the advice and support we offer is both current and relevant to real world scenarios that our young people regularly face.”
