The Courts Service, the independent body established to manage and administer the Irish courts system, has commissioned Fujitsu Services to manage its entire IT infrastructure. Initially for two years and valued at over EUR3m, the contract is extendable to up to four years.

Fujitsu won the contract following an open EU procurement process against intense competition from all the major players. Fujitsu will provide a complete managed service covering 43 locations and 70 offices throughout Ireland; 1,250 desktops and 140 servers, as well as managing other service providers, and supplying a range of call-off services as required.

The service will be provided through Windows 2000 based enterprise management software. The contract began on 1 May 2003.

The Courts Service is responsible for providing the administrative and institutional infrastructure for the Irish courts, and was established in November 1999 following the enactment of the Courts Service Act 1998.

PJ Fitzpatrick, chief executive of the Courts Service said: ‘we wanted a single strategic partner to provide information technology support services, with proven capacity, capability and experience’.

He said the organisation also wanted the same firm to take control over the day-to-day running and management of the Court service’s IT infrastructure, ‘freeing us to focus on our core business of efficiently and effectively supporting the operation of the courts’.

‘We look forward to working with Fujitsu over the next two to four years to further enhance our capability to provide modern information technology services that will deliver an enhanced level of services to our customers.’
