IBT Solutions has upgraded its free online IT audit and planning tool for small and medium sized firms. In addition it has also launched the second edition of its free online book, The Technology Jigsaw Explained.

Plan_IT includes a number of new features that will help firms get more out of IT. Users of the tool are asked to complete a questionnaire comprising 105 questions on their use of IT. These are then submitted to IBT Solutions who in turn will respond with a list of recommended actions that organisations should consider taking.

Plan_IT doesn’t just cover the bits and pieces which make IT
work, it also provides advice on the infrastructures by which it works and the environment in which it works. Examples of this are areas such as health and safety and electrical requirements based on current and future computer installations.

The Technology Jigsaw Explained meanwhile, is a book that has been written to demystify technology. It not only teaches the reader how things work but also empowers business managers across all functions to deal with technology in an informal manner. The book has been newly revised to include new chapters and
on network and computer security and patch management.

The book’s author, Colm O’Tuathaill, managing director of IBT Solutions, wrote the book in an effort to reduce the confusion that exists between technologists and business managers. ‘Technology is not that hard to understand,’ says O’Tuathaill, ‘but it is very easy to become confused. I use the analogy of seeing a doctor; while you place your trust in their diagnosis and treatment, it is a foolish
person that does not attempt to understand their own condition.’

The book and the online IT audit and planning tool are available for free from the IBT Solutions website www.ibtsolutions.net.
