A new store in Beijing, called Robot Mall, has opened its doors and offers the public a wide selection of robots. The mall features more than 100 types of robots, ranging from mechanical aids to remarkably realistic replicas of historical figures such as Albert Einstein.

Robot Mall is the only one in China that sells consumer-oriented humanoid robots and offers services similar to those of a car dealership, including sales, spare parts, and maintenance.

This initiative aligns with China’s significant investments in robotics and artificial intelligence (AI). The country is seeking to address challenges such as slow economic growth and an aging population through technological advancement.

Robot prices vary significantly, from 2,000 yuan (€239) to several million yuan. Visitors can interact with various robots, including robot dogs and chess machines. A special section offers spare parts and maintenance services for the robots.

Next to Robot Mall, there is a theme restaurant where customers are served by robots and mechanical chefs prepare the dishes. China’s interest in the robotics industry is evident from the substantial subsidies of more than $20 billion (€17.2 billion) in the past year.

In addition, the Chinese government plans to set up a fund of 1 trillion yuan to support start-up AI and robotics companies. The opening of Robot Mall coincides with the five-day World Robot Conference in Beijing, where more than 1,500 exhibits from over 200 local and international robotics companies are on display.

Beijing will also host the first World Humanoid Robot Games from August 14-17, where teams from more than 20 countries will compete in events such as athletics, dance, and football.
