An innovative IT training programme is being introduced by the Computer Network Institute (CNi) to keep IT professionals’ skills up to date.

Aimed at those who are currently working in IT and those who have been made redundant in the current downturn, Fast Track is an intensive 15-day programme that combines a training for IT certifications in networking, Web development and JAVA programming with a three-month job placement opportunity.

‘We are experiencing a slowdown in the IT sector at the moment. However, the demand for IT professionals will return once the market picks up and employers’ confidence begins to build again,’ said Suzanne Brierty, General Manager, CNi. ‘There will be new challenges to face, both in technology advancement and the demand to implement these advances.’

The course is also open employers who want to upskill their staff; employers who have had to lay off staff but want to give them an opportunity to upskill while they are between jobs; and individuals in IT who want to move into a different area. The programme should also hold some interest for graduates who want to gain industry-recognised certifications.

To participate in the programme, candidates must undergo a skills and psychometric test.
