Offering the speed advantages of Flash memory and the USB 3.0 interface as well as full encryption, Iomega has launched a series of external solid state drives (SSD) aimed at the consumer and small business.

Leveraging the experience and development clout of parent company EMC, Iomega’s new pocket-sized 45mm, external USB 3.0 SSD Flash drives will be available in early November in 64Gb, 128Gb and 256Gb capacities.
Sleek metal enclosures are attractive but form part of the protection system that allows for up to a three metre drop. The drives also feature 256-bit hardware encryption for security, as well as being bundled with anti-virus and backup software and a three-year warranty.

Utilising the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface, the external SSD Flash drive boasts up to 10 times the speed of USB 2.0 drives, with roughly twice the speed of a 7,200 RPM SATA hard drive utilising the same USB 3.0 interface.

With no moving parts and no major power draw, the drives run no external power source and ensuring low power draw and no waste heat. The drives are also backward compatible for older USB standards. Adapter cards are available for both desktop and laptop formats to bring them up to USB 3.0 speeds.

The new SSD drives will be priced by capacity at 64Gb for €219.00, 128Gb for €389.00, and 256Gb for €749.00, suggested retail price. All Iomega products include a 3-year limited warranty with registration.
