The first of these will take place on April 2nd at the Clarion Hotel, kindly sponsored by Qualcomm. Our keynote speaker is Professor Geraldine Boylan, Director of the Irish Centre for Fetal and Neonatal Translational Research in CUMH. Professor Boylan’s bio and profile is below.

    Speaker Profile: Professor Geraldine Boylan

Geraldine Boylan is Professor of Neonatal Physiology in the Department of Paediatrics & Child Health at University College Cork (UCC). She is also Director of the Science Foundation Ireland funded Irish Centre for Fetal and Neonatal Translational Research (INFANT) www.infant.ucc.ie

INFANT aims to develop innovative technologies for perinatal health that will improve outcomes for the most vulnerable members of society- mothers and their babies.

Researchers at the INFANT centre come from a variety of disciplines including medicine, engineering, computer science and the life sciences. The Centre has recently developed a computerised algorithm for detecting the signs of brain injury in new born babies in the intensive care unit and this algorithm is currently undergoing multi-centre clinical trials in a number of countries across Europe.

Geraldine will talk about how technology is used in everyday perinatal care including in the labour ward, the delivery suite and the neonatal Intensive care unit. She will also discuss ongoing technology based research.
