The Student Entrepreneur Awards 2015 has opened for entries from third level students across the island of Ireland.

An Enterprise Ireland initiative co-sponsored by Invest Northern Ireland, Cruickshank Intellectual Property Attorneys, Grant Thornton and Intel, the Awards boasts a top prize of €10,000 in cash and a €30,000 consultancy fund.

Previous winners include Darren O’Connor from UL, whose company Motus received the Intel High Achieving Merit award in 2014. Motus is a joint rehabilitation and treatment system that motivates the client to achieve their recovery goals and empowers the physiotherapist in making effective treatment decisions for the benefit of their client. The product provides a constant link between the physiotherapist and the client, thus maintaining a structured and motivated approach to the rehabilitation process.

Running in paralell with the Student Enterpreneur Awards is the The Roots in Research Award, which recognises the commercial potential of state-funded research projects. This award was scooped in 2014 by Dr Eric Risser from TCD for Artomatix, a digital art solutions for the video game and movie industries. Entrants here compete for a top prize of €5,000.

As part of their application, students are requested to submit a video to pitch their idea. If accepted, entrants have to create a website, Facebook page, Twitter account and podcasts to promote their work.

The closing date for the competition on 17 March 2015.
