Engineers Ireland has called on ambitious engineers to develop their professional skills and apply for scholarships on its Future Professionals Programme before the 27 May deadline.
The scholarships, which are based on 75% of the programme fee, are open to engineers who are working in organisations with less than twenty engineers. A total of eight scholarships are available, two at each of the four locations where the courses will take place. The programmes will run in Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Galway, beginning in September and have two parts: the Graduate Transition Programme and the Professional Progression Programme. Candidates will be evaluated on key criteria such as education and specific experience.
John Power, director general of Engineers Ireland commented that “the Engineers Ireland Future Professionals Programme offers structured advancement to graduates through two strands of intense and challenging professional development”. He added that, “the main objective of these initiatives is to help participants gain an understanding of professional engineering standards and confidence about career progression. Our education system has yet to adapt to our ambition of becoming an innovation economy so it is vital industry does its best to support the development of graduates and professionals with the right skills.”
The Graduate Transition Programme has been specifically designed in partnership with leading employers to allow recent graduates, to get to grips with the professional standards expected of those working in engineering-led teams and organisations. The second strand, the Professional Progression Programme, is aimed at engineers with between three and six years experience who are committed to deepening their abilities as a professional.
