Iomega, the data storage and protection specialist, has unveiled two drives, the eGo USB 2.0 portable hard drive and the eSATA/USB 2.0 professional hard drive.
The eGo is a 2.5-inch USB-powered drive with 160Gb capacity and EMC Retrospect HD software for automatic backups, scheduled backups, or on-demand backups. DropGuard technology protects against drops of up to 130cm. It is housed in an elliptical contoured case in a choice of cherry-red or burnished gray, with chrome end caps that give a flourish to its distinctive styling.
The eSATA drive uses the new 3 Gbit/second eSATA interface for rapid access to its 500Gb storage capacity. Iomega says such performance suits it to the demands of advanced graphics, video editing applications, and small server or network environments.
Housed in a slender silver casing, it also comes with EMC Retrospect Express software. For computers lacking an eSATA interface, the USB 2.0 interface offers a universally popular alternative. However, PCI eSATA cards are available separately.
Both are compatible with recent versions of Windows, from 2000 Pro to Vista. The eGo is also compatible with Mac OS X 10.1.5 while the eSATA drive is compatible with Mac OS X 10.2 or above.
The 160Gb eGo costs EUR*139 and the 500Gb eSATA/USB drive sells for EUR*179 (both inc. VAT). They are available from online retailers, VARs, resellers and select retailers, and at www.iomega-europe.com
