€2.2 million for research scholarships
18 July 2005 | 0
The Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology will allocate EUR* 2.2 million for research scholarships to support around 40 new Doctoral and Masters level researchers in science, engineering and technology. The allocation follows a second call for applicants for the Council’s Embark Initiative Postgraduate Research Scholarship Scheme.
The Council’s 2005 programme has already allocated EUR* 8.6 million through offers to around 150 applicants who will begin research programmes in October. The researchers represent the best in their fields as selected by an independent academic panel.
Operated by IRCSET, Embark is aimed at knowledge creation for the future benefit of society and the economy. The initiative seeks to attract and retain highly qualified and talented researchers within Ireland. Up to 70 research projects within the overall programme will be co-funded by industry this year. Currently 580 Masters, Doctoral and Postdoctoral researchers are supported directly by the Embark Initiative.
