Sage has unveiled a scheme in the US which allows small businesses to access their ACT databases online or offline via a single software licence key.

The software company has announced a single software licence that allows small businesses to access ACT! by Sage Premium for Workgroups and ACT! by Premium for Web products at a lower price than buying two separate licences.

Known as Premium Dual Access, the two licences in one product gives customers the flexibility to work with Web or Windows depending on where they are.

David Cosgrave, product manager for ACT! in Ireland, said it was already possible to access both products but people had to buy two licences – one for Windows and one for Web.

The US pilot was cheaper and simpler because the user had a single licence key for both products. At the moment, the scheme is confined to the US but Cosgrave said Sage UK and Ireland was “eagerly awaiting the feedback from the customers on the usefulness of this arrangement. I wouldn’t say it’s guaranteed, but it’s definitely a possibility in the future”.

The company would “make a public announcement if we decide to proceed”.

At the launch of Act Sage Premium Dual Access in the US, Joe Bergera, senior vice president and general manager for Act at Sage Software said it would allow mobile professionals to synchronise their calendar, contact and to-do information and to access critical contact and customer details through Citrix or Terminal Services.

“This is especially important for users who need timely access to critical customer information, whether they are in the office, at home or on the road,” he claimed.

Act Premium Dual Access is priced on a volume basis at $529.99 per single-licensed user.
