The public vote is now open for Google’s Doodle 4 Google competition. The competition invites children to create their own variation on the Google logo.
A record 5,000 entries were received in five age categories: Junior and senior infants; 1st and 2nd class; 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th class; 1st, 2nd, 3rd year; and transition year, fifth and sixth year.
These were whittled down to 75 by a panel of judges consisting of Ireland and Leinster rugby player Jamie Heaslip; TV presenter Don Conroy; IADT Dun Laoghaire lecturer Cora Cummins; and Niamh Sharkey, creator of Disney Junior’s animated series Henry Hugglemonster.
The five most popular doodles, one from each age category, will go forward to a grand final where the overall winner will be chosen by the official Google doodle team based at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California.
The overall winning doodler will have their doodle featured on the Google.ie homepage for a full day in April 2015. They will also receive a €5,000 scholarship towards their third-level studies, a Chromebook laptop, and a €10,000 technology grant for their school. Each of the five class group winners and their teachers will also be presented with a Chromebook each.
Voting will close at midnight on 20 March.
Votes can be cast at www.google.ie/doodle4google.
