Digital Realty Trust has begun work on a new 10 acre data centre site at Profile Park, West Dublin. The ground-breaking ceremony marked the start of the construction of the first of up to eight 10,000sq ft Turn-Key Flex data centre suites across four building on the campus site that will support up to 2MW of IT load each. It is expected that 150 construction jobs will be created as part of the project.
Upon completion, the four building campus will total approximately 193,000 gross sq ft, with a total IT capacity of over 15MW.
“Ireland is a key market for strategic growth for our global customer base,” said Bernard Geoghegan, managing director, EMEA, Digital Realty. “We have over 34MW of data centre capacity in Dublin, more than 30 employees supporting our clients’ operations and have invested close to €120 million in our data centre facilities on behalf of our clients. Furthermore, as we continue to extend our connectivity ecosystem across our European portfolio, we can now offer clients cost effective links to all of our European data centres, and a much improved total cost of ownership proposition.”
Attending the ceremony, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation Richard Bruton said: “Big Data is a sector we have identified in our Action Plan for Jobs as offering particular potential for Ireland, and we have put in place a series of measures to support growth in this area. [The] announcement that Digital Realty, a highly innovative company and a leader in this sector, is building a data centre campus in Dublin, making a significant investment over the phased development and creating up to 150 construction jobs, is a major boost and a further indication of the potential in this area. I wish them every success; we in Government will be working hard to ensure that we see further announcements like this in the coming years.”
