Dell’s new Dimension 2300 is a low-cost desktop system for the home or small business.

The machine is powered by a 1.7GHz Intel Celeron processor with Intel’s 845GL chipset. It has 128Mbyte SDRAM, a 20Gbyte hard drive, a CD-ROM drive and a 15in monitor (13.8in viewable area).

The chassis is fitted with six integrated USB 2.0 ports — two at the front of the system and four at the back.

The 2300 can be supplied with up to 1024Mbyte shared SDRAM. Hard drive options for the Dimension are available at up to 120Gbyte. Additional optical drives are at 48X Max. CD-ROM, 16X Max. DVD, 24X/10x/40x CD-RW, 40x/10x/40x, 32X CD-RW/DVD combo and DVD+RW drives.

Other features include embedded Intel Extreme graphics capability and integrated sound. Users can choose from bundled software such as Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition or Professional, Microsoft Works 6.0. There is an optional upgrade to Microsoft Office XP Small Business or Office XP Professional.

At the buyer’s request, the 2300 can also be fitted with an optional 56K data/fax modem and/or 10/100 Ethernet card. All 2300 systems come with a one year collect and return warranty as standard.
