Dell to establish first cloud R&D centre in Dublin

Dell has announced that it will establish its first Cloud Research and Development (R&D) Centre in Dublin. The facility will “maximise the benefits of cloud computing by delivering IT flexibility, reduced operational costs, and accelerated time to market”.

The announcement was accompanied by details for the Limerick Solution Centre, which was first announced as part of a global $1 billion (€692 million) investment in infrastructure in April.

The Limerick facility is the first to be launched internationally and is part of a network of 22 centres that gives access to Dell technology and solutions experts.

These announcements were made in Dublin by Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Minister for Finance Michael Noonan and Jeff Clarke, vice chairman, Global Operations and End User Computing Solutions, Dell. The investments are Government supported through the Industrial Development Agency (IDA) and are expected to create 150 new jobs across the two sites.
“Ireland has become a focal point of global information technology development (ICT), and Dell’s decision to locate new strategic resources in Ireland will help us to realise our ambition of becoming a centre of excellence for Cloud. The calibre of Dell people and the nature of their work in Ireland are consistent with our ambition to be a knowledge-driven economy,” said an Taoiseach, Enda Kenny.

The investments in Ireland are central to our broader strategy of establishing leadership in cloud computing and our commitment to help customers innovate and drive business results.
