Concrete requirements

Thriving in the recent building boom and still very much a family firm, C.E. Stevenson & Sons is a concrete and aggregate firm based in Kilkeel, Co. Down. Founded in the late 1940s, the company now operates four concrete works, two grit stone quarries, a sand and gravel washing plant and a number of sand pits. Impressive current statistics include despatching 2,500 tons of quarry stone and sand, 50,000 blocks and bricks, and 300 cubic metres of ‘readymix’—daily!

Administration of such volumes with thousands of transactions every month requires good systems and in the late 90s the company decided that enlisting experts would free up scarce management resources for core tasks. ICS Computing has been handling almost all aspects of the Stevenson systems since then, from equipment specification and installation, maintenance and repair and network administration to developing specialised applications.

For example, a weighbridge is automatically linked to the business system so that the entry/exit weight difference is consolidated into a delivery note for the customer account and data for the accounts system. Stevensons used to have two floors of administrative staff but now has just 12 out of a total staff of over 70 and is poised to handle significant expansion with the current staff and IT investment.
