A new company set up by an industry veteran and financial broker aims to manage the transition to cloud services for businesses of all sizes. Cloud Compare is, according to its founders, Eamon Moore and Michael Dowling, Ireland’s first cloud service brokerage firm.

Cloud Compare expects to create around 12 jobs in Dublin in areas of technical services and sales, with future plans for expansion including the UK market.

The company says that it "offers businesses a refreshing and professional service to introduce cloud through planning, research, independent expert advice, project management whilst filling the gap between the organisation and the Cloud Providers."

Using its own five stage framework called Cloud Adoption Framework for SMEs (CAFS), Cloud Compare enables businesses to move their data, applications and business processes to the cloud. The framework was developed in conjunction with University College Cork.

With 30 cloud service providers both in Ireland and worldwide on its panel of recommended providers, including Microsoft, Another 9, Auxilion, Fort Technologies, Novosco and Let’s Operate, Cloud Compare offers a broad range of options for companies of various sizes and scales to confidently engage cloud services.

"Through the Cloud Compare brokerage service businesses will be provided with independent advice regarding their individual Cloud Computing requirements," said Moore, CEO, Cloud Compare, and founder of E-MIT Solutions. "We will in turn recommend the most appropriate service through one of our Cloud Partners or through a tendering process based on our research of their requirements. Our aim is to provide businesses with the tools and techniques to evaluate and adopt Cloud technology within a quality controlled environment."

"Our research has shown there to be confusion and a lack of trust with regard to Cloud services in the Irish market," added Moore. "IT companies are not truly independent and are pushing the Cloud solutions they themselves provide which might not necessarily be a good fit for every business. More often than not the client doesn’t have the knowledge in this space to question if what is being provided is the best fit for their organisational needs."

Cloud Compare said that its services will include research and assessment for clients in establishing the best vendor fit for both parties, fee negotiation, project management for the duration of the contract, contract and usage monitoring and exit strategy management. The company’s consultants can also be deployed on cloud projects to act as a conduit between the client and the technical architects in cloud companies through to project completion.

Cloud Compare also offers a route to market for smaller cloud providers, as it can enfold new services within its framework, giving potential users the confidence of an established service broker to ensure quality of service.

"The Cloud space is in its infancy in Ireland," said Michael Dowling, partner, Abacus Finance, "in comparison to the UK and US markets. We are set to see huge growth over the next three to five years. With this will come an increase in the number of specialised Cloud Service Providers and greater interest and demand from organisations. Cloud Compare will act as the middle man in matching these service providers with organisational requirements".
