Clonmel Healthcare, a manufacturer of pharmaceutical products in Tipperary, is spending more than EURO 300,000 on a preconfigured, Java-based collaborative enterprise system called Movex from Intentia. It will be implemented within four months and will run on IBM xSeries servers with a SQL Server database.

Movex will support 40 users initially and will eventually be extended to 60 users. It is central to Clonmel’s goal of doubling turnover in the next three years. The system will also contribute to the company’s increasing focus on export markets, particularly the USA and Europe, and it will provide the platform for introducing e-business capabilities.

Clonmel Healthcare supplies products to 1200 pharmacies, pharmaceutical wholesalers and major hospitals in Ireland. It is also involved in contract manufacturing for many leading European and US pharmaceutical companies.

The ability to preconfigure the Java-based Movex software to industry standards without the need for business process re-engineering, will enable Clonmel Healthcare to reduce the implementation time while retaining the flexibility to reconfigure the system as its business grows.

Movex is a suite of fully integrated applications that enable collaboration between partners in a supply chain. It allows information to be passed transparently between manufacturers, suppliers, partners and customers. It has six application groups that can also be implemented separately. They include enterprise management, customer relationship management, supply chain management, business performance measurement, value chain collaboration and e-business.

‘Following the assessment of several systems, Movex was chosen because of its strength in supply chain management, particularly in the areas of manufacturing and planning,’ said IT manager, Kieran Mulhall.
