According to research carried out by Citrix Systems Ireland, 96% of Ireland’s technology channel believes Ireland has the potential to become a cloud computing hub. A further 76% of respondents said Ireland could become the cloud capital within as little as two years.
The survey also revealed a measure of optimism in the channel, with almost two thirds (64%) reporting an increase in demand for various technologies over the past six months. Furthermore, the majority of channel partners said they were anticipating a further increase in demand over the next six months with almost one third (32%) expecting a "rapid increase" and over a half is seeing "steady" growth ahead.
Demand for the BYO (bring your own) concept, the initiative that allows employees to use personal devices for work purposes, also seemed to be gaining ground. Of those surveyed, 72% reported "considerable" or "some" growth in demand for BYO solutions to support the use of consumer devices (such as tablets or smartphones) in the workplace. The channel also believes that there will be sustained growth in BYO over the next year with 69% predicting "rapid" or "moderate" traction.
Kevin Bland, channel director for the UK and Ireland, Citrix (pictured), said: "The Irish channel is holding its own in the ever changing technological and economic climate. The sentiment is positive – businesses are under an ever increasing demand from end users to use technologies which enable their mobile and fast paced lives, and the channel is facilitating this trend with BYO solutions.
"Equally, the drive towards the cloud within Irish business is highlighted in the channels adoption of cloud service offerings and expertise. The trends which have been anticipated over the last couple of years are now playing out in real-time and this can only have positive implications for both the channel and Ireland Inc. The message from customers is clear; help us save money and become more agile."
