When he was young, Ian Moore dreamed of a life in the clouds. Sadly, it wasn’t to be, at least not literally, because his short-sightedness killed any notion of becoming an airline pilot stone-dead. But he has ended up heading for the cloud in a different way. Or at least he’s well on the way to getting there now as general manager at VMware. One of his other early dreams revolved around music. As a youth at Blackrock College, Moore played keyboard and harmonica in a number of bands, with names like Echelon and Deep Six that were inspired by the likes of Cream, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Pink Floyd. They gigged quite a bit in places like the Rock Garden in Dublin and Walters in Dun Laoghaire. Their biggest opportunity probably came at a gig in the University of Maynooth but nothing ever came of it.
