CES: Wii U impresses as Sony confirms no PS 4
Nintendo has been turning heads at CES with the demonstration of its prototype Wii U controller. Using a resistive touch screen, the Wii U is roughly tablet-sized with a resistive touch screen, accelerometer and gyroscope. An integrated camera lets the controller work in tandem with a Wiimote. Multiple controllers can be connected to a single console, and each device shows the action from each player’s own perspective – a nice touch for multiplayer games where screen size may be at a premium.
In other games news, Sony chairman Kaz Hirai has confirmed we won’t see a new PlayStation E3 or other point in 2012 at a CES panel discussion. That much was never really in doubt.
Hirai was unequivocal during event, reiterating that the company views the PS3 as a 10-year system.
While Microsoft is still not commenting about a new Xbox, with the 360’s strong sales and games like Halo 4 in the offing, we’re unlikely to see a new console this year.
