Celerra NS600 from EMC is a mid-sized network attached storage system that combines the functions of EMC’s enterprise NAS operating system, DART (Data Access In Real Time), with the CLARiiON storage architecture.
The NS600 can be configured in two different modes, for high availability or for maximum performance. One can be converted to the other as business needs evolve.
When configured for maximum performance, the NS600 is said to offer more than double the I/Os per second of comparable NAS systems, EMC claims. When operating in high availability mode, the NS600 is priced at nearly half that of comparable NAS systems, while maintaining superior price/performance.
The Celerra CNS can serve as a NAS gateway to both EMC CLARiiON and Symmetrix SANs, enabling customers to deploy one centrally managed infrastructure for their NAS and SAN requirements. With the Celerra CNS, customers can consolidate their general-purpose file servers into a unified file-sharing environment, while using the scalability, business continuity, and heterogeneous server interoperability of the SAN.
EMC has added to its range of NAS management tools, available across the Celerra range. Celerra Web Manager is a Web-based package that allows customers to perform basic NAS management functions such as network configurations, hardware configurations and file system management.
Celerra Native Manager, EMC’s flagship management software for the Celerra series, is now also available in a Windows application to provide an easy-to-use management interface for performing advanced NAS functions.</p>
