Canon Bubble Jet 830D

?THE CANON BUBBLE JET 830D is the latest addition to the Bubble Jet range – it replaces the 820D model. The main difference between the two is that the 830D is exif-compatible (Exif 2.2 is a new industry-standard used in digital imaging. It adds image and camera data to images).

The printer uses Bubble Jet ink-on-demand with advanced MicroFine Droplet Technology. Its six-colour system uses separate ink cartridges for each colour, which means that when cyan or magenta runs out, you just replace that colour instead of the whole colour cartridge, as you must with most colour printers.

It connects to your PC via a USB cable — simple, quick and easy to set up.

Setting up the printer is fairly simple, with step by step instructions provided in the manual. Once you have everything installed and in place, you’re ready to go!

Text documents print out crisp and clear, helped by the 2400 x 1200 dpi resolution.

For me though, its real strength was in printing photographs. Prints came out looking vibrant and clear, especially when the proper photo paper was used. Users can also print borderless photographs if they want that authentic, photo-lab feel.

The printer speeds aren’t exactly blistering — four pages per minute for monochrome text in draft mode, 3.5 for standard mode. The speed of colour printing is similar: Four pages per minute in draft mode, 2.4 ppm in standard, but if you aren’t in a hurry for any of your documents, then you probably won’t mind.

An LCD panel on the front of the printer means that you don’t even need your PC to print — instead you can print directly from one of the memory cards that the Bubble Jet 830D supports. Using the included PC card adapter, users can print directly from Compact Flash cards. Smart Media and Memory Stick cards are also supported.

The printer is also supplied with two camera cables, so you can hook up your digital camera directly to the printer, rather than start up your PC. However, when you are using this option, you will not be able to print from the operation panel.

The printer looks stylish, with a silver panel and grey casing. Dimensions of 430 x 301 x 188mm make it a compact and fairly lightweight printer – it definitely won’t stand out from your desk for the wrong reasons.
