1 April 2005

Voice and data company Calyx has made two regional acquisitions worth together more than €1m. Calyx Data has bought Vipertec, a Carlow-based IT services network installation and repair company, and Calyx Voice has acquired BevCom, a Calyx distributor based in Mallow, Co. Cork.

The acquisitions will help to broaden the company’s regional spread. Calyx currently has two offices in Dublin and one each in Cork, Limerick and Belfast. BevCom’s office functions will be absorbed into the Calyx Cork office and the previous owner, Declan Bevan, will take up a sales role in Calyx. The previous owner of Vipertec, Patrick Ramseyer will join Calyx in a consultancy capacity.

Calyx confirmed there would be no job losses at the two companies as a result of the acquisitions. Chief Executive Maurice Healy, intends to continue the companies acquisition strategy in both the Irish and UK markets and informal discussions have already taken place with a number of new and established companies. He said: ‘These latest acquisitions are very good buys for Calyx. We
have a nationwide presence, with about 100 engineers and sales people working all over Ireland, and with BevCom and Vipertec on board we can bring a much wider product and service offering to companies often ignored outside the major cities.’

The acquisitions come close on the heels of the announcement that Calyx is to invest €2m over two years in a new consulting division. Calyx Consulting offers a range of ICT consulting services from decision support consultancy and project delivery to lifecycle-managed services. The division is being headed up by Aidan Daly.

The division, which is being headed by Aidan Daly, has already secured four major clients: Metrowerks and The Yell Group (Yellow Pages) in the UK and the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources and the Investor Compensation Company in Ireland.
