Call of Duty: Black Ops may be getting a huge release today, but the game itself became the focus of an altogether different kind of covert operation last weekend.
That’s what a pair of robbers packing semi-automatic handguns pulled off last Saturday night at a Maryland GameStop – pocketing 100 copies of the season’s bggest first-person shooter.
The Baltimore Sun reports they struck just as the Festival at Bel Air store was closing and looted cash, game systems, and four boxes filled with copies of Activision’s not-yet-released Call of Duty: Black Ops. The game launches today worldwide.
According to ABC News, customers who showed up as the robbery was in progress got more than they bargained for, though no one was injured.
“Originally, the robber told the customers that the store was closed but then they brought them into the store, ushered them into the back store room, where they put them for the remainder of the robbery,” said a spokesperson for the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
It is unclear whether the thieves favoured a particular game platform.
