The Irish Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Association (ISME) holds its annual conference on Friday, November 29th, 2002 in the Corrib Great Southern, Galway under the theme “Bust to Boom and Back?” Speakers at the conference are drawn from many industry sectors and will include Sean Bolger, CEO Access Telecom who will talk about “How to be a success during lean times.” Other speakers include Padraig O’Ceide, Chief Executive of Aer Arann Express, Eunan O’Carroll of Gunne Residential and John Teeling, Chairman of Cooley Distillery. The Closing Address will be given by Frank Fahey TD and Minister for Labour Affairs.

ISME has made a submission to the Minister for Finance in advance of the December 4th Budget. The main points of the submission are that the government must contain expenditure in line with the decrease in revenue while creating incentives for entrepreneurs to create wealth for the country.

The Association also calls specifically for the setting up of a EUR100m training fund towards grant aid training in small enterprises. “In today’s competitive environment training is an economic imperative, particularly in relation to e-commerce and e-business and staff in general. This issue needs serious attention now and has a medium to long term payback,” reads the submission.
