Apple has revealed a new addition to the iPhone 16 series – the iPhone 16e. The first handset to bear the ‘e’ mark since 2022, the 16e was announced in a short YouTube video.

The iPhone 16e is splash, water and dust resistant and meets resistance standard IP68. The Ceramic Shield glass on the front is stronger than any other smartphone glass, according to Apple.

The 6.1″ Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology runs edge-to-edge. iPhone 16e also has the very best battery life for an iPhone of this size: the battery lasts up to 6 hours longer than that of iPhone 11 and up to 12 hours longer than that of all iPhone SE models. The TrueDepth camera system also enables Face ID, for securely unlocking your iPhone, making purchases or logging into apps.

Its A18 chip has six cores and is up to 80% faster than iPhone 11’s A13 Bionic chip. Also new is the C1, the first modem developed by Apple itself. This is also immediately the most energy-efficient modem yet in an iPhone. All this is in the service of iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence, which it will run out of the box.

The powerful 2-in-1 camera system on iPhone 16e captures small and big moments, according to Apple. The 48-MP Fusion camera uses computational photography to capture super-high-resolution photos in which light and detail are “beautifully balanced. The TrueDepth front-facing autofocus camera should guarantee sharper close-ups and beautiful group selfies. The latest generation of HDR accurately captures the subject and background, with natural skin tones and balanced rendering of whites, shadows and everything in between.

iPhone 16e is available in white and black with 128GB, 256GB or 512GB storage starting at €729.

Preorders open on Friday, 21 February with a full release on 28 February.
