Black Box Corporation, one of the largest technical support providers in the world, has set up a presence in the Irish market through a merger with local firm EDC Communications.

EDC was founded in Antrim in 1989 and established a Dublin office five years ago. It currently employs 25 staff between its two offices and provides design, supply, installation and maintenance services for structured cabling and related computer networking products.

According to Leslie Fernandes, group managing director of Black Box UK & Ireland, the multinational has been serving customers here with technical phone support services for a number of years. The merger will allow the company to offer an on-site presence in addition to a supply and installation service. ‘EDC Communications has particularly strong skills in servicing the infrastructure needs of government, health, education and commercial clients all over the island of Ireland,’ he added.
