Eircom has launched a new content filtering tool to help parents protect their children while accessing their high speed DSL connection at home. Eircom’s Broadband Guardian application is a content and access management system and it enables parents to easily create and manage specific Internet access policies for each family member.

The application is designed for parents who want to prevent their children from accidentally accessing pornographic content while surfing the Internet, for those who are concerned with their children’s safety when using e-mail, chat or instant messaging; for parents who want to monitor their children’s online activity and who want to control online buying. A single subscription to Eircom’s Broadband Guardian protects any device connected to the broadband router – that can include multiple PCs, gaming devices, visiting laptops, handheld computers, and any other Internet capable device in the home.

Gateway-based parental control services are not easily circumvented by teenagers. The application eenables households to manage hour by hour Internet usage where a single click can allow or block all-day for web browsing, it can filter by category, create user managed white and black lists; allow or block all e-mail and Instant Messaging services.  The software is available to test as part of a 30 day free trial and it costs EUR*2.99 per month to subscribe after the trail period finishes.
