“There is no turning back from the Digital World,” said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at his company’s opening keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Ballmer devoted his time on stage to discussing the ‘three screens’ of television, PC and mobile phone and how Windows 7 will break down the barriers between these devices. He argued that having a combination of quality software applications, greater choice in hardware and a compelling user experience would ensure the growth of the Windows operating system.

With almost 50% of mobile phones sold in the US the coming year expected to fall in the category of smart phones Ballmer stressed the importance of being able to share personal data freely from handsets to PC to TV through storage in the cloud.

Also unveilled was a new partnerships with Facebook where status updates would be automatically included in Windows Live Network updates and Dell, who will be pre-installing new PCs with Windows Live and Windows Live Search.
