Strencom, the business IP services provider, and e-net, the firm that operates the Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) in 27 towns across Ireland, have signed a deal that will see Strencom provide back-up connections to e-net’s 28 co-location facilities.

Strencom also provides communications redundancy for e-net to ensure constant connectivity to their MANs.

Strencom has connected 28 co-location facilities to e-net’s central network operations centre (NOC) in Limerick. These backup connections ensure that, if e-net’s primary network develops a problem, individual MANs will not lose their connectivity, so e-net engineers can resolve problems without making site visits.

Strencom project managed the entire transition from the previous supplier, ensuring a total switchover in just three weeks from initial proof-of-concept tests.

The back-up network uses a secure multiprotocol layer switching (MPLS) solution over XDSL to provide full network resilience on e-net’s primary optical fibre connections.

Strencom MD Tim Murphy noted that “e-net has the highest profile network in the country. With Government departments, major multinationals and some of Ireland’s biggest companies using it every day, it’s vital that any potential downtime is minimised. Our solution is able to keep the MANs around the country connected to the central hub even in the event of a problem.”
