AWS cuts hundreds of jobs in reorganisation
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has confirmed that it is cutting hundreds of jobs as part of a restructuring within the online retailer’s cloud division. According to a spokesperson, this is a strategic decision aimed at increasing efficiency.
Employees received e-mails on Thursday morning announcing their dismissal and immediate termination of system access. Among the affected groups is the team of specialists that guides customers in product development and sales activities. Although Amazon is not disclosing an exact number, sources emphasise that it concerns at least several hundred employees.
This move coincides with a growing trend in the technology sector, where companies such as Microsoft, Meta, and Intel are also implementing staff reductions, partly due to the rise of generative AI.
Financially, AWS continues to perform solidly: in the first quarter, revenue rose by 17% to $29.3 billion, and operating profit increased by 23% to $11.5 billion.
