Striking a balance
“It’s not about the technology – it’s about what the technology can enable. It’s the attributes of a cloud services deployment that are important to CIOs, much more so than its components”
Version 1 : Peter Smyth
In the last 12 months, Version 1 has witnessed a surge of interest and adoption by traditional enterprise organisations who are starting to benefit from significant cost savings and organisational agility achievable with cloud computing. What is top of the mind for our CIOs is how to deliver IT as a service against business requirements, faster and more transparently. It’s not about the technology – it’s about what the technology can enable. It’s the attributes of a cloud services deployment that are important to CIOs, much more so than its components. In our experience a balance needs to be struck between the potential benefits such as cost reductions and increased business agility and the risk and complexity associated with the adoption and management of cloud in Enterprise organisations. Version 1 provides strategy and roadmap consulting to help customers define their cloud adoption strategy in particular to:
• Identify entry points and workloads that can be moved to the cloud
• Assess the impact of moving applications on factors such as productivity and business agility
• Identify new opportunities that businesses can harness by moving resources onto cloud infrastructureVersion 1 is committed to delivering on the cost and business transformation expectations of our customers and to resolving cloud adoption concerns. Managing the mix
“Personas are task based to match the individual user’s role and specific requirements resulting in the user seeing only the applications, menus and links relevant to their role”
Unity Technology Solutions : Aidan Rowesome, head of Cloud Practice
Cloud computing is now becoming widespread and is transforming businesses. Up to now, the focus of cloud has been to improve underlying technology infrastructure whilst at the same time reducing costs for IT Departments, increasing their flexibility and lowering risk.Nowadays, the IT function and business executives work together to ensure a smooth move to the cloud — whether it be a private, public or hybrid cloud solution; and they now need to consider the best way to manage the mix of cloud solutions in their environment. Cloud application aggregation and brokerage are increasingly important services to ensure optimum end user desktop configuration and performance. We forecast a move to innovation rather than savings being the major driver of cloud adoption going forward. The end user persona is becoming a focus for attention as the myriad of available applications and SaaS solutions has led to a cluttering of work environments resulting in user frustration and inefficiency.Personas are task based to match the individual user’s role and specific requirements resulting in the user seeing only the applications, menus and links relevant to their role. Persona driven computing delivers a valuable business proposition to C-level executives, the IT department and the end user themselves. It delivers real business agility and a reduction in operational overheads whilst improving efficiencies and productivity; ultimately, increasing the bottom line. It allows the IT department or manager, to deliver IT services whilst integrating with existing business applications, operations and IT systems and End users are empowered with quick and easy access to their critical business applications and resources allowing them to work more efficiently.
