Representatives from the arts community across Limerick took part in an initiative geared at maximising the success of the programmes run as part of the Limerick National City of Culture 2014.
The event was hosted at University of Limerick campus by The Project Management Institute Irish Chapter, in association with Dell and Limerick National City of Culture 2014.
Project managers from Dell and representatives from the Project Management Institute (PMI) provided attendees with a range of new skills that will enable them to bolster their effectiveness in a skills sharing seminar. The seminar also looked at examples of where project management models have been used successfully. Leaders from the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Special Olympics Ireland and Limerick City of Culture talked through their experience and the benefits they have seen as a result of adopting the new models and systems.
Timmy O’Dwyer, Dell Limerick, said: “Without proper project management skills, the ability of non-profit organisations to perform their function to its best effect is limited. From fundraising events and other donor engagement activities to the day-to-day community-facing work of the organisation, project management skills are necessary for maximised productivity and optimum performance standards. When people are volunteering their time, every effort should be made to ensure that the time is put to its fullest use.”
The Limerick National City of Culture 2014 is running all year across the county. Hundreds of events are planned and many more hundreds of volunteers are supporting the delivery of these programmes.
