Apple has once again removed the game Fortnite from the App Store worldwide, making the popular game unavailable on iOS devices, including in the US and EU. According to Epic Games, Apple rejected their recent attempt to offer Fortnite again through the App Store.

The battle between Apple and Epic Games began in 2020, when Epic tried to bypass Apple’s in-app payment system by integrating its own payment option into Fortnite. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney has been criticising Apple since 2015 for what he sees as an excessive 30% commission on their revenue. This led to the immediate removal of Fortnite from the App Store and a protracted legal battle over Apple’s power over its platform.

In 2021, a US judge ruled that Apple had to allow developers to inform users about alternative payment methods outside the App Store. However, Apple continued to impose restrictions, leading to further legal action by Epic.

A US federal judge ruled in April that Apple wrongfully ignored the 2021 court order and referred the company’s conduct to criminal prosecution. Following that, Epic announced the return of Fortnite to the US.

As early as 2024, under pressure from the European Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple allowed Epic Games to reactivate its developer account in Europe, temporarily returning Fortnite to iOS in the EU.

In May 2025, however, Apple again blocked access to Fortnite in both the US and Europe.

For iOS users, this means Fortnite is currently unavailable through the App Store or other official channels. Players who previously downloaded the game may still be able to play, but will not receive updates or support. The only way to play Fortnite on iOS is through cloud gaming services such as GeForce Now or Xbox Cloud Gaming, although these options may have limitations.
