Following a quiet January at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, Apple has announced the release of two new products. This year’s iPod Shuffle features 4Gb of Flash memory and weighs only 10.7 grams. The controls are located on the earbud chord and the device supports MP3, AC, VBR, Audible, AIFF, WAV and Apple Lossless formats.
The iPod Shuffle also features ‘VoiceOver’ which tells the user what track they are listening to.
Apple’s other recent announcement, the iPhone OS 3.0 seeks to address much of the criticism levelled at the device. At the top of the list of additions is media messaging (MMS) and cut, copy and paste functions.
A new software developer kit (SDK) for the beta version of the OS has just been released, which will allow developers work on new applications for the handset to sell through the App Store on iTunes.
The iPod Shuffle is currently available at €75, while the iPhone OS 3.0 is scheduled for a summer release.
