Apple has reportedly started a program for its employees that lets them take a two-week break from their normal jobs to work on special projects within the company.
The Wall Street Journal’s Jessica Lessin reports in a video that the program, dubbed Blue Sky, could be compared to Google’s ‘20% time’, which lets employees at the company spend one day a week on special projects.
Lessin does note, though, that Apple’s program is a "far cry" from Google’s plan because it is only for select group of employees.
WSJ says that Blue Sky indicates a gradual change in Apple’s culture under the leadership of CEO Tim Cook (pictured), who took over the company in 2011.
The program could help inspire innovation, and generate ideas that might go on to help Apple. It could also help to keep employee loyalty high and prevent poaching, suggests the report.
Cook has also given Apple executive Eddy Cue the green light to join the board of directors at Ferrari this month, a move that some have suggested wouldn’t have been allowed by Apple’s late co-founder Steve Jobs.
