Wicklow-based Actus Mobile has launched m:Cypher, a secure mobile transaction platform using four-factor authentication. It is expected 18 jobs in sales and application development will be created.

As well as acting as acting as a platform for paying bills and managing bank accounts from a mobile handset, m:Cypher could also be used to push notifications of special offers to consumers and direct them to outlets where they can find specific products within shopping centres. Other possibilities being explored include prescription renewals and airport boarding passes.

Pat Fox, MD of Actus Mobile, said: "We are at four-factor authentication security, a security level that would take a supercomputer some hundreds of years to crack… Other technologies were able to deliver some services but none were able to allow a secure mobile transaction. Your phone will now be your new credit card. Better still, if your phone is lost or stolen we can ‘reach in’ to your phone and switch it off so it’s useless to thieves.

"We are now in talks with a large variety of international companies about applying our technology to their businesses and we will shortly be making announcements as we sign contracts. These will include major shopping centres, international betting companies, airports and of course those financial services companies. Even hospitals want to use m:Cypher to enable doctors to securely access patient notes from anywhere in the world."
