Nvidia has recently announced the introduction of Cosmos 3 Edge, an advanced AI world model developed to enhance the real-time environmental perception and navigation capabilities of visual agents and robotic systems.

Unlike traditional large language models, this technology is designed to process a wider variety of data inputs in order to better understand physical spaces.

Modernisation of the manufacturing sector

CEO Jensen Huang stressed that the transition of AI into the tangible world represents a historic opportunity for Japan to modernise its tradition of excellence in the manufacturing sector for the intelligent era.

To support this vision, Nvidia is setting up a collaborative network with leading Japanese companies such as Hitachi, Fujitsu and Kawasaki Heavy Industries.

A growing AI market

This strategic push comes at a time when Japan’s AI sector is expected, according to the International Trade Administration, to grow to 27.9 billion dollars (24.4 billion euros) by 2029.

That strong growth is being fuelled by government initiatives to integrate AI into various sectors and by a strong need for global cooperation.

Other US companies are also vying for a foothold; Microsoft recently committed 10 billion dollars (8.75 billion euros) for the country’s cybersecurity and AI infrastructure, while SoftBank is working with Sakura Internet and Microsoft to promote local AI development.

Advances in biotechnology and healthcare

Nvidia is further diversifying its influence by integrating agentic AI into the biotechnology and healthcare sectors.

A key example of this is the Tokyo-1 consortium, led by Xeureka, a Mitsui subsidiary, which uses the BioNeMo Agent Toolkit to accelerate the autonomous discovery of new drugs.

That framework is currently being applied by leading pharmaceutical companies, including Ono Pharmaceutical, Daiichi Sankyo and Astellas Pharma, to optimise their research processes.

In addition, the company is expanding its activities into industrial automation, particularly through a strategic alliance with Kawasaki Heavy Industries.
